This is a compilation of the inventive musings of the KOR ML members about how KOR would be like through the eyes of these various directors: Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 19:44:38 -0400 From: xl3r2@rockpile.com To: kor@edmonds.home.cs.ubc.ca Subject: [KOR] what if James Cameron: Ayukawa Madoka thought she led a normal life until the day she was confronted by a mysterious man named Kasuga Kyosuke, who claimed being from the future. According to him, her son will be the world's only hope in a great war between humans and the artificially intelligent killing machines they created. He has come back to protect her from one known only as "The Hikaru" who has also come back in time. It is Hikaru's mission to see that Madoka is eliminated before she and Kyosuke can concieve her heroic son. (Of course, Kyosuke fell in love with Madoka just by looking at a picture of her.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 11:48:56 -0700 (PDT) From: "Bernard J. de la Cruz" To: da680824@tigger.luhsd.k12.ca.us, pvallado@waynesworld.ucsd.edu Cc: kor@edmonds.home.cs.ubc.ca Subject: Re: [KOR] What if... As you ask, so shall you receive: Woody Allen: Kyosuke is this psychic Jewish kid in Tokyo, but his only power is to stop time and wax neurotically to the audience. He falls for Madoka, this totally fabulous Japanese babe but he gets nowhere with her because sushi isn't kosher and he thinks the ABCB is some weird anti- Semetic WASP enclave. Eventually he's accused of molesting a blond 13-year old who's in fact his daughter by a time-traveling accident which actually relives him because he was afraid their relationship seemed too normal. Robert Altman: Kyosuke, Madoka, and Hikaru are a trio of competing fashion reporters in Tokyo who randomly run into the world's most famous models and fashion designers as they hunt down the elusive 'H' fashion designers Komatsu and Hatta. The common thread is a red straw hat that keeps getting blown from fashion show to fashion show. The movie flops but has one hit song by Kanoka Wada. John Woo: Hikaru is the daughter of a Japanese yakuzu who sees hit man Kyosuke knock off her father. Kyosuke goes to rub her out, but Hikaru falls in love with him thinking he has actually freed her from her domineering father. Kyosuke is forced to flee as Hikaru's bodyguard, Madoka, claims a blood debt against Kyosuke, in a spectacular car, helicopter, and hovercraft chase through Tokyo. The final showdown occurs in a church outside of Hong Kong as Kyosuke and Madoka are forced to team together to protect each other from Hikaru's betrothed and rival yazuka gang leader Yusaku who has amassed an army of 100 men armed with anti-tank weaponry. The climax occurs as Madoka and Kyosuke, hiding behind the stone altar being chipped away by anti-tank weapons, throw Hikaru out as a sacrificial lamb. Steven Spielberg: Kyosuke is the new ace added to Madoka' TAP Gun team charged with destroying a giant cat eating Tokyo.... oh wait, that was already done, wasn't it? -------------------------- Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 14:21:24 -0400 (EDT) From: Rob Cabacungan To: kor@edmonds.home.cs.ubc.ca Subject: Re: [KOR] What if... Kimagure Orange Road II: All Your Yesterdays of Rage Written and Directed by Scorsese Martin In this stark black-and-white film, Kyousuke is forced to confront the demons of his past in the form of his obligation to his dying grandfather, and his being hunted by an obssessive figure from his past. Taking place a decade after the end of the series, Kyousuke must also deal with the alcoholism that set in after the tragic death of his first wife, Ayukawa, as well as his current, passionless, marriage to the now-bitter and resentful Hikaru--enraged at Kyousuke's inability to let go of Madoka in his mind. With his career in photography in the gutter (like he is on most nights), how long can Kyousuke run from the bitter reality that is his life? From the estranged daughter by his first marriage (played with crushing empathy by Juliette Lewis)? From the rampaging, psychotic madman Yuusaku? Where in this bitter world is there solace for the wounded heart? Scorsese's answer is not encouraging, and perhaps not surprising, but the honesty and gritty realism of his direction makes the film not just excruciatingly emotional, but immensely watchable, too. ****1/2 out of four. --------------------------------- Date: Thu, 27 Jun 1996 22:02:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Delmar Antonio To: Paolo Valladolid Cc: kor@edmonds.home.cs.ubc.ca Subject: Re: [KOR] What if... After Hikaru collapses, a frantic Yuusaku drags her to Komatsu's house where he, Komatsu, and Hatta curse and panic until they decide to let Yuusaku attempt reviving Hikaru by stabbing her heart with a syringe. The next day, Hikaru uses her old gang connections to purchase a gun... Miyazaki Hayao Madoka would look like Muta Rikako (Umi Ga Kikoeru). Hikaru would look like a blonde Shizuku (Mimi Wo Sumaseba). Kyousuke would look like an older Asbel/Pazu (Nausicaa/Laputa). There would be lots of flight scenes. While there would be a nice touch of bittersweet drama accompanying the end of the love triangle (compare with similarly "sad" parts from Tonari no Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc.) the resolution would be an idealistically happy one in Miyazaki's inimitable style. Closing credits would roll over a final scene of Madoka and Kyousuke sailing away in one balloon and Hikaru and Yuusaku in another to the theme of "Orange Road" (basically "Country Road" with slightly altered lyrics). Oh yeah, Jingoro looks a lot more like Jiji and "acts out" Kyousuke's inner feelings. Tarantino Quentin Upon being rejected by Kyousuke, Hikaru heads for Disco Moebius to get drunk. Yuusaku finds her there drinking heavily and snorting coke in between dancing drunkenly to classic American r&b tunes. The climactic showdown features Hikaru and Madoka both pointing guns at each other. Oshii Mamouru Lots of comtemplative scenes where Madoka and Kyousuke philosophise on modern Japanese society. Meanwhile, Hikaru and Kazuya are kidnapped and fitted with brain implants that force them to steal top-secret prototype Pat Labors and terrorize the city.
